Spiraea is not a “lead guitar” kind of plant. Instead, it’s the rhythm section – super important to the overall jam, but those chords probably aren’t what you’re thinking about two days after the show. That’s definitely spiraea.
‘Neon Flash’ is one of my favorites because the foliage is a little bit darker than some other green-leafed varieties, helping the pink flowers really pop. And when I say flowers, I mean flowers. Spiraea spends a chunk of the summer covered in bright pink blooms. Growing to 3-4 ft tall and wide, ‘Neon Flash’ is an easy plant to grow and care for. Like a shrub that looks loose and natural? It works. Like a shrub sheared into little gumdrops? Done. Also, deer tend to leave them alone.
Keep in mind that spiraea is deciduous, so it’s just a bunch of sticks in the wintertime. Plan your plantings accordingly and your landscape band will have a killer rhythm guitar section.
Sold as a 3 gallon container.
