Landscape designers are a catty bunch. Get some drinks in a group of us and someone will eventually complain about customers who want “a plant that only gets this big and stays this shape and flowers and blah blah blah.” The general consensus among designers is that if this is what you want, buy furniture ‘cuz that ain’t how plants work, honey.
However.
Pieris japonica ‘Cavatine’ is apparently plant furniture. It grows to approximately 30″x30″ and stays put pretty reliably, it’s evergreen, and it gets covered in the gorgeous white panicle flowers you see in the photo. It even tolerates a range of conditions from part sun to shade.
I’ve tried them as almost a replacement for boxwood; didn’t love them like that though. It’s a funky accent plant, I’d say treat it like one and plant singly or in small groupings.
Sold in 3 gallon containers.
