Landscape Designer/Salesperson, full time

We are looking for a VIRGINIA BASED landscape designer/salesperson for our company! Revolutionary Gardens is a small boutique design firm located in Culpeper, Virginia. While this position is only open to someone who can physically go meet with clients in northern Virginia, the job is functionally remote – we don’t require you to sit in our office so we can stare at you.

Please understand we’re only interested in candidates in northern Virginia. Part of the reason I’m hiring for this role is because I need someone to meet with clients in person, physically measure and document site conditions, and check in on jobs in progress while making sure the client is happy.

We’re the company people turn to when no one else can figure out how to build it. As such we’re looking for someone who is not only a problem solver, but in general just naturally curious and excited to dive down a rabbit hole to blow their client’s mind. We do interesting projects for interesting people. Here’s the job description:

A landscape designer/salesperson’s function is to close leads and create amazing landscape designs. The great thing about what we do is that there’s no hard sell. Leads tend to be pretty good, and we believe in a consultative sales approach. We work with the client to find the best solution for their site, their style, and their budget. Our projects often include plants, lighting, hardscapes, and carpentry (decks, porches, etc). My other company is a wood shop/fabrication shop so we are able to create custom, one of a kind design elements in house.

We have a few priorities:

A great design sense in any discipline. If you’re smart I can teach you plants.

Comfortable meeting new people from all walks of life.

Good phone manner

Good Zoom presenter (most client presentations are over Zoom)

Some sales experience is good. I’m not necessarily looking for the world’s best salesperson, but if you can craft a good pitch and handle the client saying no without taking it super personally? That’s a great start.

We are an AutoCAD shop, so you either need to come to us with demonstrable CAD skills or be willing to tackle a program with a steep learning curve and learn it quickly.

SketchUp, Photoshop, and Illustrator are pluses. It’s 2023 so I’m going to assume you’re proficient with Microsoft products and Google Docs/Sheets.

A big quick brain. I don’t expect you to know how to design everything we do right off the bat, but I’ll help you learn.

What we offer:

70% commission on landscape design sales

7% commission on landscape sales

10% commission on most hard goods sales (outdoor kitchen cabinets, trellises, etc)

5% commission on outdoor kitchen appliances (we’re a dealer for half a dozen really solid brands)

$25 per hour for support work if you’re doing stuff for the company (drafting for my projects, graphic design type work, etc.)

One week paid vacation per year after your first 90 days is up.

Plenty of leads – we’re partnered with another landscape company in Northern Virginia so you’ll be getting house leads from two houses.

All software needed is provided for you

Why we’re hiring:

Our current super awesome designer is moving to Texas, which will make sales calls in NoVA a wee bit challenging for her.

What I’m like as a boss:

My job is to support you, Juan, and everyone else that makes the magic happen. You’ll have targets, which we’ll review in our sales meetings on Mondays and Fridays, but I don’t micromanage. We’re all adults here, I just ask that you do your job and make us look good.

This is a position that has the potential to be very lucrative for the right individual and I will do everything I can to make that happen.
