Wednesday Inspiration: Japanese Inspired Garden Gate

When my mom came to visit, we made a trip down to Richmond to visit Maymont, a historic estate property in the heart of downtown. How have we never made it here? It’s an amazing property. You should go. Now. Tell your boss I said it’s cool.

Today’s post is about the super cool gateway to the Japanese garden at the base of the hill.

There’s a lot to love here. The rustic styling blends beautifully with the wooded setting. The roof over the gate gives it some visual mass, creating balance with the steep slope to the left. The fence panels step down the hill, creating rhythm and reinforcing the focal point – the gate opening. The gate creates a sense of expectation for the garden beyond, and it doesn’t disappoint. That, however, is another post!
